Southern Crepes co-owner Kay Farthing knows how much mothers appreciate being able to feed their babies in a public place.
After all, mothers have been breastfeeding their babies in the popular restaurant for years.
``We have always been that way, we became a non-smoking (restaurant) about nine years before non-smoking was introduced.
``It has always been a child-friendly place."
Ms Farthing said the decision to ban smoking in the restaurant was made on the behalf of mothers with young children to make it a better environment.
``We have so many families with kids come here," she said.
``Some say they don't want to go to McDonald's, but Southern Crepes instead."
Ms Farthing said most people did not even notice if a woman was breastfeeding in the restaurant.
``My husband jokes to them saying `you know there is a BYO charge'," she said. ``But most people don't take any notice."
Ms Farthing said some mothers preferred to ask to be seated at the side of the room, but many were unconcerned about feeding in public.
Ms Farthing said there were plans to renovate the restaurant in the coming months and part of the renovations would be the addition of a baby change table.
``There are so many people with children who like to go out," she said.
